The new energy storage market in China has great development potential in the future. The cumulative installed capacity of new energy storage in China is expected to exceed 100 gigawatts (GW) by 2025, according to the Energy Storage Industry Research White Paper 2025 released by the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics on 10 April.
Based on CNESA’s projections, the global installed capacity of electrochemical energy storage will reach 1138.9GWh by 2027, with a CAGR of 61% between 2021 and 2027, which is twice as high as that of the energy storage industry as a whole (Figure 3).
In 2022, 194 electrochemical storage stations were put into operation, with a total stored energy of 7.9GWh. These accounted for 60.2% of the total energy stored by stations in operation, a year-on-year increase of 176% (Figure 4).
The learning rate of China''s electrochemical energy storage is 13 % (±2 %). The cost of China''s electrochemical energy storage will be reduced rapidly. Annual installed capacity will reach a stable level of around 210GWh in 2035. The LCOS will be reached the most economical price point in 2027 optimistically.
