Yemen launches its first large-scale solar power plant in Aden, a 120MW project funded by the UAE. Discover how this step boosts renewable energy and sustainability.
Facilitated by an agreement between the Ministry of Electricity and Energy and Masdar, the 120 MW solar plant includes the construction of transmission lines and substations needed to integrate solar energy into Yemen’s electricity grid.
In a historic ceremony, Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Mubarak officially inaugurated the solar power plant in Aden. The project, with a capacity of 120 megawatts (MW) and a cost of $500 million, marks a significant milestone for renewable energy in Yemen.
The solar power plant will significantly reduce Yemen’s reliance on costly conventional power generation by providing large-scale solar energy during daylight hours. This shift will lower fuel consumption in conventional power plants, cut carbon emissions, and help the country address climate change.
