Overview Battery energy storage systems (BESS) use rechargeable battery technology, normally lithium ion (Li-ion) to store energy. The energy is stored in chemical form and converted into electricity to meet electrical demand.
1. What is BESS? BESS, short for Battery Energy Storage System, is an advanced energy storage technology solution widely adopted in the renewable energy sector. Within the industry, it is commonly referred to as “BESS” or “BESS batteries.”
A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), such as those offered by FusionSolar, works by storing energy in a rechargeable battery and releasing it back into the power grid during peak demand or when renewable energy sources are low. This process involves an inverter and sophisticated control software.
As shown in Fig. 3, the BESS consists of 50 containers, each of which is a sub unit of 1 MW/2 MWh. Each 1 MW/2 MWh energy storage container includes two sets of 500 kW PCS, 2 MWh battery and corresponding battery management system.
