For the battery system’s electrochemical properties to be ideal, the cathode and anode interfaces should be considered a single entity.

The rise in renewable energy utilization is increasing demand for battery energy-storage technologies (BESTs). BESTs based on lithium-ion batteries are being developed and deployed. However, this technology alone does not meet all the requirements for grid-scale energy storage.
Functional gradient material (FGM) design endows the electrode materials with property gradient, thus providing great opportunities to address the kinetics and stability obstacles.
