Tantalum Polymer (Tapoly) capacitors are high CV devices, similar to tantalum capacitors, but offer extreme stability across temperature and voltage. Electrochemical Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC), also known as supercapacitors, have an impressive bulk capacitance value, easily achieving 3000F in a single element discrete capacitor.
Despite these challenges, supercapacitors offer significant advantages over traditional energy storage technologies and have the potential to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient energy future.
Tantalum capacitors have a higher energy storage capability than X5R capacitors due to their stability across voltage. However, they have a higher ESR because of the inherently complex surface area of the dielectric and cathode interface, which also contributes to their broadband frequency response. The size and leakage of Tantalum and X5R capacitors are comparable.
